C. Mahillon "Goeyens" (1926)
About the maker:
This instrument is a B♭ trumpet manufactured by the legendary Belgian maker C. Mahillon in 1926, built as the celebrated "Goeyens" model. Aside from a large dent and a minor crease in the bell flare, the horn initially appeared to be in remarkably good cosmetic condition. However, upon testing its playability, the instrument suddenly fell completely silent the exact moment the third valve was compressed—and the accompanying image reveals the surprising structural reason why.
To bring this historic piece back to life, I fashioned a custom patch over the hidden hole in the tubing, successfully restoring the necessary compression. While the dent and crease in the bell still await professional removal, this interim repair has brought the trumpet back into very good, fully playable condition. These unique early 20th-century Belgian models hold a distinct, unstandardized appeal that makes them a true highlight of this collection.
